This is a set of five mystery picture math puzzles for Martin Luther King Day. Each puzzle targets different skills, from place value to mental math, so you can easily set up a differentiated activity for any group of lower elementary students.

Puzzle #1 is a simple number search on the hundreds chart.
Puzzle #2 uses the 150-chart and the numbers are given as sums of hundreds, tens and ones (expanded notation):
Puzzle #3 requires the students to add and subtract within 20 and to compute +1, -1, +10, -10 of other numbers on the hundreds chart.
Puzzle #4 requires the students to perform some more advanced operations, like adding and subtracting within the same ten and add or subtract whole tens to/from any number on the hundreds chart.
Puzzle #5 uses the 150-chart, and is intended for students who are comfortable with adding and subtracting within 150 and need to practice their mental math skills.
