Martin Luther King Day Writing - Tic Tac Toe
Choices can be a key motivator and this Martin Luther King Day Writing Tic Tac Toe offers students many choices of writing genres. Students must pick three prompts in a row to write about.
Suggestions for use:
Start the activity about 6 days before the Martin Luther King holiday. The first 3 days the students write using 3 different prompts. Their choices must form a tic tac toe (3 in a row vertically, horizontally or diagonally.)
If the Free Choice, or middle square, is used the student picks one of the 6 remaining unused prompts for their writing. This allows the student many more combinations of choices..
On the fourth day, the students pick their favorite writing to rewrite and publish. They may revise their piece on their own or use peer review. Students may use one of the holiday papers included in this packet for their final copy.
