Thank you for previewing this unit on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for upper elementary students in grades 3, 4, and 5! In this unit you’ll find 3 different reading passages, each with a 10 question assessment (2 assessments have multiple choice and short answer questions, and the 3rd assessment is a fact/opinion quiz). Topics covered include the early life of Dr. King, the Montgomery Bus Boycott, Dr. King’s use of nonviolent protests, winning the Novel Peace Prize, his assassination, and President Reagan signing the bill into law to create Dr. King’s holiday. I’ve also included a writing activity for Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, and a “What Would Dr. King Say?” speech bubble activity page about bullying and being a good student. These activities can be done in class as a whole group, working in partner pairs, or even as literacy center activities. I hope your students enjoy the unit!
