Students will be introduced the the life of Martin Luther King Jr. through a series of documentary clips based on his life and greatest achievements. An article with a detailed history of Martin Luther King Jr's life is also required reading for before beginning the assignment. Students will learn about his upbringing, family life, his involvement in the Montgomery bus boycott, his March on Washington and "I Have a Dream" speech, and his leadership during the Selma to Montgomery marches. Dr. King's belief in non violence and the turbulent relationship it cause with the more violent members of the Civil Rights movement is also examined. Finally, students will learn about his assassination and the legacy that he left behind.
This webquest can be easily used as an introduction to the topic, a study guide, or a quick and easy sub plan.
