In this packet you will find a variety of materials to help you in helping your students understand the contributions of Martin Luther King, Jr. We have included three reading passages to address different grades and abilities. You can decide which is best for your students. We have also included two separate time lines so you can address different aspects of Dr. King's life and help students understand the concepts of a time line. The two are differentiated by level and again you can decide which you prefer for your students. Also included is a craftivity, two writing prompts as well as vocabulary words and two individual worksheets.
This is a unit I have always enjoyed teaching. One because teaching social studies is my favorite and two because the lessons are numerous when we talk about Dr. King. To be able to show students the importance of standing for a cause and helping them to review a situation or a time in history and decide for themselves what is right and what is wrong. Showing them that an average man had the ability to gather others around him in a show of strength toward a cause shows them the possibility to do the same. I hope you find the information helpful and useful in your class.
Please remember to leave us feedback and let us know what you think and how it worked in your classroom. Thank you.
