Looking for something to take your study of Martin Luther King, Jr. a little deeper?
This unit includes:
- a short text about Martin Luther King, Jr.
- a comparison/contrast chart
- 5 writing prompts
- extra lined writing paper
- all pages in color and in black/white
Students will engage in the text to analyze and compare the characters of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and of Flip-Flop the Penguin in the book, The Penguin Who Wanted to Fly, through a comparison-contrast chart and several writing prompts.
Writing paper is provided and a short MLK, Jr. text is provided also to supplement your MLK, Jr. materials. A copy of the book, The Penguin Who Wanted to Fly, is needed for the activities.
I have successfully used these activities with English language learners in grades 1-5. They would be great activities for character analysis, text-to-self connections and writing application for any students in grades 1-5.
