Description

Looking for a back from break writing resource? MLK worksheets like these will keep your kids engaged and appreciative. This Martin Luther King Jr writing activity examines the following Martin Luther King, Jr. quote, below. We love it and feel that this important quote from MLK exemplifies a growth mindset perfectly:

"If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if

you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you

have to keep moving forward."

And while MLK quotes can be found in posters and such, we wanted to go a bit deeper. We thought your kids would get great value out of this idea from Dr. King, so we made it into a fun, engaging activity - including a writing exercise.

This is an ideal way to enjoy real-life growth mindset inspiration -- all with Common Core alignment, coloring posters, bulletin board posters, fun puzzles, and best of all, a lovely prize!

This activity is a "deep dive" - repetition in different forms that will help students memorize the MLK quote, reflect and write on the quote, and understand the concept at a deep level.

Here's what's included:

  • a word scramble puzzle to warm up and learn the quote;

  • a Reflect and Write activity that includes the unscrambled quote, a biographical statement that helps the student understand the life path of Dr. King, and questions to help the students relate the quote to their own lives (meets Common Core standards W.6.1, W.6.2, W.6.3, W.7.1, W.7.2, W.7.3, W.8.1, W.8.2, W.8.3);

  • a coloring poster, again exposing them to the MLK quote in a different way;

  • and a prize to take with them: an easy-to-fold origami bookmark (which gives them more exposure to the MLK quote)!

There's also a Martin Luther King, Jr. biographical sketch that ties into the quote, so students can immediately understand how the individual used a growth mindset in their own lives for success. It makes the quote REAL and credible.

BONUS: also included is a color poster that you can add to bulletin boards.
