Product Description
Perfect for Martin Luther King Jr. Day in January, during Black History Month, or any time you want to read up on MLK. This passage was written with 4th graders in mind, but I feel it could be easily used as a teacher directed class reading with third graders or as a literacy center with fifth graders.

Click on the preview above to get a better idea of what is included.

IMPORTANT---- I offer this SAME passage in two different formats. This particular product is a one page passage with 6 questions that go along with the passage.

The other format is for interactive notebooks. It is the exact same passage and questions just formatted differently. If you would like to view the interactive notebook version, click HERE. You can then read the description to see which format works best for you.

Remember, this is a short close reading type passage that does not touch on every part of his life. It does touch on how he was a minister, the Montgomery Bus Boycott, I Have a Dream Speech, and the Civil Rights Act. It includes vocabulary such as advocate, boycott, segregate, and more.

One question is on the definition of segregate, one focuses telling what the I Have a Dream speech is, and the other focuses on four comprehension questions related to the text.

In addition to doing this activity as a whole group reading lesson, you could also have students do it during a literacy center. It would make a great follow up activity to a book or video on MLK. Feel free to use it in your classroom however you would like.
