Martin Luther King Day of Service - Celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Most students are familiar with the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This MLK Day, help your students understand the purpose of this national holiday. It is "A day ON, not a day OFF." Students are introduced to this concept through a reading passage and optional comprehension questions. Common problems, in local communities nationwide, are introduced through task/scenario cards (8 different problems). Students are asked to identify the problem and think of possible solutions. Finally, students have the opportunity to create a service learning project that they can implement on Martin Luther King Day (or any day they choose).
Help your students make this a day on and promote positive change in your school and community.
