This packet is designed to be used during the month of January to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day or can also be used during February as a spotlight study for Black History Month. It incorporates Facebook ®, Twitter ®, emailing and blogging and focuses on the major life events of Martin Luther King, Jr. You can pick and choose which writing activity fits your needs or you can complete the entire pack with your class. These are also great activities to add to an existing writing center rotation.
Description of Four Major Writing Assignments Included:
1. Facebook Timeline Profile Activity - encompasses major life events of Martin Luther King, Jr. - works best as a culminating project.
2. Twitter assignment w/ graphic organizer included - Focus: "I Have A Dream" speech
3. Email chain between Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King w/ 2 graphic organizers, Venn diagram and student directions included - Focus: Montgomery Bus Boycott
4. Interview transcript and blog entry - Focus: The assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.
There are three reading passages included (I Have A Dream, Montgomery Bus Boycott and A Light Extinguished) plus three student-friendly "tech" reading passages on Facebook, Twitter and blogging.
This pack is aligned with the Grade 4 CCSS for Reading and Writing, but the activities can easily be used in Grade 3-5 classrooms.
