Just download, print, and students can get started on this engaging research and writing activity presented in a fun and creative newspaper format to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. No additional prep is required. This is perfect for informational paragraph writing practice, early finishers, or as a center activity.
Students can research information on the internet or in books to complete a newspaper article on Martin’s early years and to write original articles of their own for the preprinted headlines. Headlines include: "A Day of Celebration," "What a Character," "MLK, An American Hero," "A Fair Review," and "All Things Are Not Equal." Illustrated templates without headlines have also been provided so students can create their own.
Several graphic organizers have been included that students can use to help them in the prewriting stages of their articles. Lined decorative paper and a GATE frame template for Martin Luther King, Jr. are included in this download as well.
The finished product makes a great bulletin board or hallway display as well as a fun addition to any writing portfolio. Collect them for each holiday posted, and compile them together for a unique writing portfolio for the year!
