This packet contains 3 activities that would be perfect for studying The Civil Rights Movement, or celebrating Martin Luther King Day.
The first activity is the famous I Have a Dream Speech. I took the speech and broke it into excerpts that are short enough to keep the students attention. I then ask follow up questions to that portion of the speech to check for students' comprehension. I did not use the entire speech ( that would be too long for this activity) but I did use the majority of the speech.
The second activity is a task card activity. Print, cut and laminate the cards and use it as a scavenger hunt, group work, or in a center.
The third activity are vocabulary circles/ word association. I used these all the time in my classroom and found that they are fun and really enforce students understanding in a wonderful visual way. Cut and paste them into an interactive notebook, do as an assessment, place in a center, or work on it in groups. You choose!
