From Amanda Backof, M.S. CCC-SLP, an experienced speech language pathologist and author of SpeechLanguageNeighborhood.com, comes "Martin! Where are You?" a short story about a wandering puppy and a fun way to teach students how to answer "where" questions.
There are so many commercial materials available that focus on answering basic “wh” questions. Unfortunately, materials to teach higher level, literature based, questions do not exist. Out of necessity, I developed Martin stories to promote generalization of these basic skills, first to Martin stories and then to curriculum based activities. I have used the Martin stories with my students with autism as well as with students in general education with great success!
Students don’t realize they are learning how to answer “wh” questions as they listen to the story of mischievous and adorable wandering Westie, Martin. The story is also embedded with multiple opportunities to answer “where”, “who”, “what”, “when”, “why” and “how” questions. Maximum results masked by maximum fun! Symbolstix symbols from N2Y.com bring the story to life and are used with permission under a commercial license agreement. For grades K-6. Sample SMART Goal included.
