A bridge activity linking the Declaration of Independence to modern-day tyranny.
All of my lessons incorporate the four C’s of teaching: Collaboration, Communication, Creativity and Critical Thinking. These four elements are at the core of the Common Core Standards. You will find all of these elements in this lesson, from having the students work with a partner or in groups, to students sharing aloud, to creating a GIST, to thinking critically about tyranny and freedom.
This lesson may be used as a basic overview of independence before reading the Declaration of Independence or after reading the document to bring the concept of tyranny into modern day. It is suitable for Advanced Placement/Honors and College Prep.
