Mary Called Him Mister highlights the pathos and humour associated with Henry Lawson and his poetry. Mary and John cannot say what they want to say to each other. Though written in the 1890's, it still speaks to us today. There are pre-reading activities in this approach to the study of poetry which build on what students may already know.
