Mary Called Him Mister highlights the pathos and humour associated with Henry Lawson and his poetry. Mary and John cannot say what they want to say to each other. Though written in the 1890's, it still speaks to us today. There are pre-reading activities in this approach to the study of poetry which build on what students may already know. There are activities to undertake while reading and, in this case, they include acting out the dialogue. And the post reading activities help take the issues and ideas further. These approaches are all detailed on the worksheets but the PowerPoint that accompanies the sheets includes a reading of the poem which is essential to fully appreciate the poem.

This work is also part of a Lawson Collection which includes, Andy's Gone with Cattle, Knocking Around, Mary Called Him Mister, Past Carin', The Faces in the Street and The Glass on the Bar.

There are also works by Banjo Paterson; Waltzing Matilda, The Geebung Polo Club, Mulga Bill's Bicycle, The Man from Snowy River and The Man from Ironbark.
