This Animated Step-by-Step™ poem is based on a song that works on student names, clothing items and color. Many teachers love to include this song into their morning circle (especially early in the school year) as it has a format that can be easily personalized to allow students to sing about clothing items they are wearing that day (“Joseph wore his green, green pants, green pants. Joseph wore his green pants to school today”).
The SymbolStix are automatically added to each page AFTER completing all the animations for that page. This sequence ensures that the upfront presence of symbol support does not ‘steal attention’ from the focus on literacy.
Intuitively this makes sense as it allows you to focus on the literacy and comprehension components first … then allows you to review what you just read and saw using the symbol support, e.g., “Now let’s re-read the page using our picture symbols.” This layered approach is also less likely to result in ‘visual overload’!
