This is a very creative approach towards the introduction of the mole and molar mass. It is derived from actual data collected during a lab investigation, but is written as a "thought experiment" so students may do the entire experiment by paper and pencil (and calculator!)
This lab was my KEY experience for students to be led towards a working (and meaningful) definition of the mole. It paved the way for molar mass calculations and stoicheometry.
