Match that Group! The Basics: Convergent naming, categories, EET support
A quick and engaging game to support categorization, convergent naming, grouping, sorting, peer interaction, language development, vocabulary, explaining reasoning, answering “why” questions and more! This group contains game boards for NINE categories: Body Parts, Colors, Clothing, Toys, Balls, Shapes, Letters and Numbers. NINE game boards!
Each student gets one game board- a different board or category for each child- and all of the individual pieces are placed in the middle of the table or group. The child picks a card, labels the picture and identifies the appropriate category. After identifying the category and showing the card to the child’s peers, the student passes the card to the student with the correct game board. Play until all the pieces on the table are used and everyone’s board is full supporting language enrichment, direction following, vocabulary and categorization the whole time!
Convergent naming and categorization are key for functional organization of information. Practice identifying the category or group that items belong to with this game! Items are presented in a manner to support the use of the Expanding Expression Toolkit (EET) – Green Group- or for use as a small group activity practicing sorting into categories and identifying categories. I will happily create additional game boards or categorization activities with additional or different content at your request- simply email me at email@example.com with your word lists or area of interest.
