Match the Beats Game: This game is great for practicing beat values!
Students will be practicing:
- duration of note values
- many different combinations of adding up note values
Students will LOVE this game because they get to move around and help each other find partners – they are highly motivated! It’s unlike your normal band activity and the change of pace makes it memorable!
If you’re not familiar with this game, it’s very simple to teach. Each student gets a card with a different set of notes on it. They add up the total number of beats shown on their card. Then they find a partner who has the same number of beats as them (but with a different combination of note types).
DETAILED instructions (with pictures) are included along with a number of ways to SIMPLIFY the game and a number of ways to make it more CHALLENGING. The instructions are written to work with any of our “Find a Partner” games – beats, melody, symbols or terms.
Volume 1 includes FOUR individual sets:
Set 1 – quarter notes/rests and half notes/rests
Set 2 – values from Set 1 + whole notes/rests and beamed eighth notes
Set 3 – values from Set 1 & 2 + dotted half notes/rests
Set 4 – values from Set 1 & 2 + single eighth notes/rests
EACH SET includes 16 sets matching of cards (32 cards total). They can be printed in full color or, to save ink, you may print them in “greyscale.”
