Are you tired of your students making visual errors with sight words when reading? I can't count how many times I've had students read 'a' instead of 'the' or 'and' instead of 'said'.
This game was created to help students who have trouble distinguishing between visually similar words. 15 word pairs (30 words) are included to reinforce students’ automatic recognition of these tricky sight words. Students need to quickly match the correct pairs, recognizing that similar words are different, and not a correct match.
This is a skill especially difficult for English Language Learners who cannot rely as heavily on context ("if it sounds right") during reading and need additional practice quickly recognizing these high frequency words in isolation.
Directions for two different ways to play the Memory Match game are included. Students can also use these as flash cards.
Word pairs included in this game are:
Common Core Standards:
RF.K.3, RF.1.3, RF.2.3
