Teaching students to have a growth mindset is vital in today's world. Our “Matching Mindsets Card Sort for use with Easel by TpT” is a great way for students to learn about fixed vs growth mindset. This resource serves as an introduction to growth mindset while our Mastering Mindset resources are more advanced. We also include teaching ideas with videos to build an entire lesson around this card sort.

Teachers have been integrating card sorts into instruction for years.  In today’s digital world, many see card sorts as something old-fashioned and an activity that goes back to cutting and laminating paper.  It is possible to bring card sorts into the digital world and engage students on a topic.  Using Easel by TpT, students manipulate the digital “cards” to determine fixed vs growth mindset statements.

Card sorts compel students to analyze, interpret, compare, classify, make connections, and draw conclusions around topics.  When implementing a card sort in small groups or pairs, they promote collaboration and communication among students, and above all they serve as a medium through which to organize and synthesize ideas.  This card sort is perfect for online, blended, or even in-person learning, especially during remote learning.  All too often secondary teachers are left out of quality, hands-on manipulative resources.  It is our hope this card sort will fill a gap in the marketplace.

Please note that the student slide deck is in a portrait layout.  We considered both layouts when building this activity, and we felt that portrait was the best option.
Students may need to click the minus (-) button to zoom out to see all of the cards. The digital “cards” are below each slide.
