Do your students like sports? A lot of mine really like international soccer and when I was thinking of an activity for matching countries to their systems, I figured I might as well use some of the world's top soccer teams (to represent those nations). I have my kids work in pairs to first cut out the teams. Once they have done this they try to match the jerseys on the economic spectrum (the team name and country is on the cut out too). This ranges from planned economy on the left, to mixed, to free market on the far right. Maybe one of the most revealing things I learned while creating this is how far our nation has slipped towards the center, given researching several reputable sources. There are also a word bank where they have to fill in missing information seen in the descriptions- which includes political clues such as "federal republic". Directions included, also there is a key besides the two sheets for the students. If might be easiest to project the answers when done. My kids liked it, most finished in 20 minutes.
