This activity gives students a great way to practice simplifying variable expressions. The students will all be given cards with two expressions that are NOT equivalent. You will begin with an expression on the board and all students will simplify it on their own paper. Students will then check the bottom of their cards to find the equivalent expression. If they have the correct expression, they will bring their card to the front of the room and write the next expression to be simplified on the board. This will continue until all cards are completed.
The original cards are printed in order. The expression on the top of the first card is equivalent to the expression on the bottom of the second card. The expression on the top of the second card is equivalent to the expression on the bottom of third card, etc.
This activity is also included in the full Expressions Unit, found here: Math 7 Expressions Unit
