A great warm up and "get to know you" for math during the first week of school. Students brainstorm eight ways they can think about their life mathematically. Age, number of siblings, number of pets, grade, number of times they've moved, height, weight, etc.
Take those numbers and turn them into as many expressions as possible. For example, if I'm 27 years old, I could turn that into 3x9, 54/2, 14+13, or 42-15. When displayed, other students and staff can solve the expressions to find the original number.
The center circle works as a nice space for a self-portrait.
