Critical Thinking: Writing: Problem Solving: Math Workshop: Visual Literacy
This project teaches students to observe photographs of tessellations closely and critically. It uses components of "Making Thinking Visible" strategies. Students create their own tessellations using pattern blocks, and then transfer them to a paper version. The task is made more challenging because they must include a rotation, reflection, and translation in their pattern. Finally, students write about their tessellation using math vocabulary. A teacher rubric is provided.
This product contains 26 tessellation tags using colored photography, one materials list, five student thinking and planning pages, three pages of teacher lesson plans, six black and white pattern block sheets for students to use for the final product, one mini-poster explaining the definition of a tessellation, and one example mini-poster.
It address a myriad of CCSS including math, language, writing, and speaking and listening!
