Fun but challenging math picture puzzles effectively sharpen critical-thinking and problem-solving. Students use algebraic thinking to determine values of pictures and solve addition, subtraction, multiplication, division equations.
The picture puzzles for grades 3-6 encourage kids to think critically and use logic, problem-solving, and algebraic reasoning skills. The key allows students to determine values of pictures. Those values are then used in completing basic operations equations. Puzzles in grade 3 mainly focus on adding and subtracting with some multiplication. Puzzles in grade 4 include all four basic operations. In grades 3 and 4, the order of operations skill is not required. Puzzles get progressively more difficult in grades 5 and 6 and require the prerequisite skill of order of operations. To make the puzzles even more challenging, the pictures might change slightly - thus changing the values and the solutions to the puzzles. The stimulating pictures and altered images require close observation and detective work to successfully solve the puzzles. Not only do students sharpen skills of adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and order of operations, but they must think algebraically. The result is a highly motivating and effective math exercise.
These puzzles are great for extensions, enrichment, centers, group work, individual enrichment or productive time fillers. The worksheets can be printed in color or grayscale with good results. Each puzzle provides immediate feedback by using QR codes. Full detailed answer keys are also provided.
