1st Grade Daily Math Boxes with Weekly Assessments provide students with daily practice, remediation and enrichment based on 1st Grade Common Core Math Standards.

Included in this package are 4 weeks (Sessions 17, 18, 19 and 20) of a daily math box (total of 16 double-sided pages) AND an accompanied weekly math assessment (total of 4 double-sided pages) based on the Common Core. Each daily math box is divided into 4 sections - each section contains an activity to teach and/or strengthen one of the Common Core standard areas. The activities on the front side of the math box are aligned to 1st grade standards. The back side also contains 4 boxes but these boxes are based on 2nd grade Common Core standards for those students who are working about grade level (note: some boxes do not have an activity for 2nd grade as there isn't a progression into 2nd based on the standard). Each weekly session (Day 1, 2, 3 and 4) also has a similar assessment where a minimum of 4 Common Core strands are assessed.

The daily math boxes provide students with activities that strengthen number sense concepts seen in Operations and Algebraic Thinking while building a strong foundation of Numbers in Base Ten (individual cluster areas are incorporated as various standards are reviewed and tested throughout the weeks). Our first grade team has created these math boxes with the intent of building student's understanding of number sense based on a child's natural development of math concepts (landscape of learning). The concepts begin with an understanding of number (units) and slowly develop into anchor numbers of 5, 10 and multiples of 10. Each day students will experience and complete 3 various activities that will build their understanding of addition, subtraction, whole number relationships and place value. There is also 1 section of each daily math box based solely on problem solving strategies to be used with an addition and/or subtraction problem. Problem types vary from Add To, Take From, Put Together/Take Apart and Compare problem types where the change varies.

The weekly math assessment tests concepts introduced and/or reviewed in the previous session so there will always be 2 weeks of practice prior to the assessment. Most weekly assessments are designed so grades can be generated from at least 4 cluster/standard areas.

A small sample of 1 problem from each of the 4 parts of a daily math box (each box has 4-5 practice problems):
1. Box 1 - Start With - Stop At using a number line, tens frame, etc: Start at 5 - Stop at 10. How many units? How did you figure it out? What did you see? 5 and 5 more is 10.
2. What's in the Box? (building to 10): There are 10 cookies in the box - 3 are outside the box. How many are inside the box?
3. Quick Images: What dot groups do you see to make 6 (double 3s, 2 and 2 and 2, 5 and 1 more, etc.).
4. Problem Solving: JRU with 3 addends. My mom gave me 7 crackers, 2 pieces of cheese, and 3 cookies in my lunchbox today. How many things did she pack for me?
