### PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Mighty Math is a set of weekly formative assessments that can be used to evaluate progress towards the first grade math Common Core State Standards. All eleven of the first grade CCSS clusters are assessed each week:

1.OA.A: Represent and solve problems involving addition and subtraction.
1.OA.B: Understand and apply properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction.
1.OA.C: Add and subtract within 20.
1.OA.D: Work with addition and subtraction equations.

1.NBT.A: Extend the counting sequence.
1.NBT.B: Understand place value.
1.NBT.C: Use place value understanding and properties of operations to add and subtract.

1.MD.A: Measure lengths indirectly and by iterating length units.
1.MD.B: Tell and write time.
1.MD.C: Represent and interpret data.

1.G.A: Reason with shapes and their attributes.

This pack contains nine two-sided assessments, with 12 problems on each assessment. These assessments are intended to be used during the third quarter of first grade, although they would be great enrichment for kindergarteners and/or good practice for second grade students.Take a peek at the other Mighty Math sets:

How I Use These Assessments in My Classroom
I use Mighty Math as formative assessments to drive my instruction and reteach concepts as necessary. Every week, I have a shortened math period (50 minutes) due to my specials schedule. This is my Mighty Math Day. First, students complete their Mighty Math assessment. When students finish, they bring their page to me to spot check. I’ll glance it over and make sure they didn’t miss anything. I also make an informal tally chart of problems that I notice many kids struggled with. Then, students work independently on unfinished Math Journal pages from previous days or Compass Learning Odyssey (differentiated math website). When most students are finished, I will pull groups of students who struggled with specific skills on the previous week’s Mighty Math for reteaching and practice. I will also conduct whole-group reteaching on those problems that were difficult from the current week.

You may need to modify how your students complete these assessments, especially at the beginning of the year, due to the amount of problems on each assessment and the reading levels of your students. Some modifications might include taking two days to complete, students working with the teacher in a small group, or the teacher reading the problems aloud to the whole class.
