Product Description
Mighty Math is a set of weekly formative assessments that can be used to evaluate progress towards the Kindergarten grade math Common Core State Standards clusters. This pack contains 36 two-sided assessments, with 9 problems on each assessment. Buy the bundle and save $4! These assessments are intended to be used with kindergarteners, although they would be great enrichment for 4K and/or good practice for first grade students. I also have these assessments broken up into 9-week packs:
First Quarter Mighty Math
Second Quarter Mighty Math
Third Quarter Mighty Math
Fourth Quarter Mighty Math
Mighty Math Year Long Bundle

All nine of the Kindergarten grade CCSS clusters are assessed each week:

K.CC.A: Know number names and the count sequences.
K.CC.B: Count to tell the number of objects.
K.CC.C: Compare numbers.

K.OA.A: Understand addition as putting together and adding to, and understand subtraction as taking apart and taking from.

K.NBT.A: Work with numbers 11-19 to gain foundations for place value.

K.MD.A: Describe and compare measurable attributes.
K.MD.B: Classify objects and count the number of objects in each category.

K.G.A: Identify and describe shapes.
---1 time and 1 money problem included on each assessment
K.G.B: Analyze, compare, create, and compose shapes.

I use Mighty Math as formative assessments to drive my instruction and reteach concepts as necessary. Every week, I have a shortened math period (50 minutes) due to my specials schedule. This is my Mighty Math Day. First, students complete their Mighty Math assessment. When students finish, they bring their page to me to spot check. I’ll glance it over and make sure they didn’t miss anything. I also make an informal tally chart of problems that I notice many kids struggled with. Then, students work independently on unfinished Math Journal pages from previous days or Compass Learning Odyssey (differentiated math website). When most students are finished, I will pull groups of students who struggled with specific skills on the previous week’s Mighty Math for reteaching and practice. I will also conduct whole-group reteaching on those problems that were difficult from the current week.

You may need to modify how your students complete these assessments, especially at the beginning of the year, due to the amount of problems on each assessment and the reading levels of your students. Some modifications might include taking two days to complete, students working with the teacher in a small group, or the teacher reading the problems aloud to the whole class. There are some problems in the Counting and Cardinality strand that require students to work one-on-one with an adult. Students will also need to sort, cut, and glue shapes for one problem each week.
