A fun way for students in middle grades to demonstrate their knowledge about a math concept, rule or idea.
Students will design their own comic centered around a math concept, idea or rule. A grading rubric is included and easily editable to suit your own needs.
I have students submit their idea to me before they get the 'green light' to begin work on their comic....just to make sure their idea is substantial enough. If students have trouble coming up with an idea for the comic on their own, I usually suggest a math rule that they need a bit more practice with *wink*.
This is great to keep in your sub folder, for those unexpected days when you are absent. I also like to use this as a cooperative group activity. It really makes students work together to make sure their ideas get into the finished comic!
I have also used this as a quarter long enrichment type of activity. Students are able to work on the comic throughout a quarter if they finish their other work ahead of others.
Your students will love the freedom to express themselves, while you know they are challenged with deciding how to make their thinking visible within the parameters of a comic strip. Beautiful Stuff!
