Basic math and number concepts utilized in early grades set the foundation for learning more advanced math concepts. Fun exposure to math and number activities will promote your students’ comfort with these skills. This center gives your students additional opportunities to practice these skills in a fun, hands on way that will increase their confidence when working with math and number concepts and will lead him to believe he is “good at math.” If your students do not become comfortable with math and number concepts in the early grades, they will lack confidence in their abilities and may become hesitant as more advanced math concepts are introduced.
In this center students create their own addition problems by putting two parts of the “cape” together. The cape halves have different numbers of “bats” on the back and can be combined in many different combinations. The students will then record their problems on the accompanying worksheet and turn it into the teacher for accountability.
