Math Centers: Card Games to Practise the Basic Operations - Just add playing cards and have fun! (Written in English)
This is a collection of 10 card games to practise basic operations. You can use the games as part of math centers, homework activities, or a lesson. Students could play these games after they have finished their work to keep their mental math skills sharp.
I usually introduce the games by modeling them and then playing them as a whole group activity. At the beginning of the year, I ask my students to buy their own deck of cards so they can play the games in class or at home with their families.
Most of the activities can be made more challenging by following the modifications and by increasing the numbers or the number of digits. Students can also make their own modifications to the rules.
These games and materials are included in this collection:
• Super Sums
• Race to 100
• What’s the Difference?
• Multiplication War
• Doubles Memory Game
• Skip Counting
• Target 50
• Target 4
• Triplet Trouble
• Multiple Operations Required
• Operations card and spinner for Multiple Operations Game
• Hundreds chart
• Multiplication table
