Close Reading for Math Problem Solving
So close reading works for reading---so why not use what we use to teach reading and have our students apply it to solve multi-step word problems!
How I introduced Math Close Reading
I taught the students whole-group, with all the students on the rug. I had the 5 steps written on an anchor chart, and then I modeled solving a multi-step word problem following the 5 steps of math close reading.
Included in this pack are the 5 steps on a poster that can be displayed in your classroom or given to students to place in their math notebooks. There are 15 math problems. I have created 3 different types of layouts for you to use the one the most makes sense to your students needs' and classroom. So the 15 different word problems on 3 different layouts = 45 pages.
