Product Description
You may have seen my “Math Dates - dates as mathematical expressions” on Instagram over the past year and a half. They have typically been posted Sunday or Monday, for the week. After many requests, I decided to create Math Dates resources so you can have the whole month at your fingertips, and you don’t have to keep checking for when I post:-)

If you’ve never used the Math Dates, the basic idea is to use the date as a math enrichment activity. Some days the date might just be there for students to observe and mentally note that the expression is equal to the numbers in the date (even great in a non-math class!). Other days you might call attention to the expression and ask students to show you their solution (yes, the answer should be the date for that day, but I like to see how students work out the answer, depending on how complex the expression is.)

Using dates as mathematical expressions is a great way to expose students to new math rules (like cubing or cube roots or exponent rules, etc) or review rules (or facts) that students have learned (like squaring or order of operations!).

In this resource, you’ll find:
1) A directions sheet.
2) A list of the dates for the month (including weekends (you can always put one of the weekend dates on the board during the week, and see if your students notice that you made a “mistake.”))
3) A calendar for students to record the date’s expression and their work for reaching a solution. The calendar also includes the direction for students to create their own expressions (I've found that some students really like this challenge).
4) A cross number puzzle (with key) that includes about half of the dates for the month (they’re the same expressions as those in the monthly list.) This can be used for early finishers, a challenge day, or a sub day (any time during the year).
5) A Find a Number puzzle using the other half of the dates for the month. This one will take students longer to complete than the Cross Number puzzle.
