Encourage math talk with these 15 Algebra 1 math debates! Many people operate under the false assumption that there is always only one right answer in math class, but these 15 debate topics show that this is certainly not true! There is flexibility in how you have students do this activity--it is an excellent group activity or can be completed individually, you can assign student positions or have them choose their own position to defend. It is up to you!
Students are given a topic sentence and defend the affirmative or negative, as well as listen to arguments from the other side and offer rebuttals.
