Math Drawings - Help students visualize and make sense of word problems!

My students love to draw. I created this activity as a way to integrate their love of drawing into math. Often, students ignore the context of word problems and, therefore, struggle when it comes to knowing how to solve the problem. This is what makes multi-step word problems especially challenging. In this activity, students first visualize the scenario being described in the word problem. I tell them to picture it like a movie in their heads. Then, they draw an illustration to accompany the problem. Finally, they use their illustration and any necessary strategies to solve the word problem. Includes 20 different multi-step word problems!
