Math Games for Fluency - Addition to 10
Math fact fluency is an important skill for students that takes time to develop. This set of twenty games is for addition facts within 10 and it will give your students enough practice with the addition facts that they will become fluent. The facts have been divided into five groups.
• Plus One
• Plus Two
• Near Doubles
• Final Four (those facts that do not fit into a group)
There are four games for each set of facts. Two games use a spinner. These games are a board game and a spin and color. The other two games are card games. They can be used whole class by creating multiple sets or just run a few sets and put the games in a center.
This meets the first grade common core standard M.1.OA.C.6 which asks students to add and subtract to 20 but fluently within 10. This can but also be used with 2nd graders who have not met the standard of being fluent within ten.
Fluency, to me means, that students can answer without thinking. Ask any student the fact “2+2” and most students can answer without thinking. It is a fact they know. That is the goal for all facts and these games will give your students enough practice that they become fluent.
