Formative assessment is critical to supporting student understanding. Math Formative Assessment Questions is a list of question stems developed to help teachers facilitate math discussions, collaborative learning, and to dig into student thinking. There are certain questions that are critical to student learning in the various math strands. Therefore, the question stems are categorized by topic: Number and Operations; Algebraic Thinking; Geometry; Measurement; Data; Probability; and Problem Solving. Examples of question stems are: "what is the same as…"; "How many ways can you…"; "Where can you find that shape in real life…"; "How many patterns do you see…"; What would the data look like if…"; "What is certain… uncertain… most likely… least likely…?"
