This game, based on “How Close to 100,” builds number sense and area awareness as students tactically place rectangles to fill a 10 x 10 grid. Now, however, students have 2 rerolls to mitigate large numbers rolled late in the game. To watch it played, clink the link above.
To give even more choice in this game, have students roll 4 dice at a time, and choose how to pair them. For example, if they roll a 1, 2, 2 and 5, they can pair up the 1 with 5 and 2 with 2. This gives them new ways to impact their shapes and keep numbers small.
Or, have them roll 3 dice and keep 2.
