Each activity involves cutting out pieces which are matched, grouped, or arranged in a specific way. I like to use these activities with students in groups because it limits the required resources and it generates discussion as groups must agree on the correct grouping of the pieces. I generally assign these activities mid-unit when students are developing skills but haven’t mastered them yet because the limitation of the pieces offers students some guidance. without just giving them the answer. My students responded best to these activities when it was a competition between groups to get the correct arrangement quickest.
