Product Description
This unit includes three activities that reinforce addition, subtraction and fact families for numbers 0 – 20.

It is based on gingerbread people and gingerbread houses. It ties in quite well with many books (The Gingerbread Man, The Gingerbread Cowboy, The Gingerbread Kid Goes to School) and seasonal activities.

In the first two activities, students match gingerbread men with number sentences (sums/differences) on them to their respective gingerbread houses. In the third activity, students match gingerbread people to the correct houses based on the "address" on the house. The "address" corresponds to the fact family numbers shown on the gingerbread people. A recording sheet is included for this activity.

(C) compose 10 with two or more addends with and without
concrete objects;
(D) apply basic fact strategies to add and subtract within 20,
including making 10 and decomposing a number leading to a 10;
(E) explain strategies used to solve addition and subtraction
problems up to 20 using spoken words, objects, pictorial models,
and number sentences; and
(F) generate and solve problem situations when given a number sentence involving addition or subtraction of numbers within 20.

(5) Algebraic reasoning.
(F) determine the unknown whole number in an addition or
subtraction equation when the unknown may be any one of the
three or four terms in the equation; and
(G) apply properties of operations to add and subtract two or three numbers.
