This is an easy-to-use grading scale used primarily for grading math assignments. Many math teachers scale daily assignments to 3, 5, or 10 points before placing them in their grade books. The following scales may be used on assignments that are being scaled to 10 points.
The scales go from 10 to 35 points before being transferred to the 10-point scale.
This can make grading quicker in some aspects, especially when grading late papers with a certain percentage off, and it allows each assignment given during the unit to have the same weight.
Because many assignments are given the same day that they are introduced, the 10-point scale allows students some leeway on points they can miss and still be able to make a decent grade. Many of my students love the scaled grades!
A handout with 10 multi-step equations can equal the same as one with 30+, sometimes faster, integer operation problems.
