Math higher order thinking questions focus on the framework in building mathematical ideas. Higher order questions unpack the concepts being taught. Accountable talk connects to prior knowledge and develops accurate and meaningful explanations.
This packet includes
2 sets of questions sheets.
2 sets for teacher questioning.
2 sets of accountability sheets for the teacher to record daily assessment.
Pairs/groups will be given the question prompts as they work through the math problems.
Students look at the questions and check off the questions that they ask each other. Students do not have to ask all the questions all at once but can continue to use the question during the week.
As students work through their math problems the teacher circulates listening to and asking students to explain how they are thinking about a task allowing them to think about their ideas and then asks questions during share time on the carpet.
Teacher uses the math accountability sheet to record students’ thinking and use it as an aid to make sure that by the end of the week every student in the class is assessed.
