Two versions (one with the month and one without) have been provided to fit your classroom/calendar needs. These choice boards are designed to provide additional practice with math skills at home. The skills should be taught in class first, then practiced at home, preferably with an adult.
Choice boards engage students by allowing them to choose how they will practice the skill. The activities can be differentiated by parents to meet their child's needs. Suggestions on how to differentiate are listed at the top of the page. Additional information is given to parents about helping their child meet the standard. The different activities are designed to meet students’ various interests and learning styles. Students can decide which activity they want to complete first. Activities vary in difficulty and students can choose an activity that they feel comfortable with completing.
The choice board can be sent home to be used as monthly homework. As the teacher, you can decide how many activities you want your students to complete each month. Common household items are used to complete the activities. If some families do not have the items at home, you may need to provide them with the items from the list. You may want to make play dough together as a class and send it home to be used throughout the year. There is a play dough recipe attached.
