Making math fun and interactive is the best way, in my opinion, for helping the facts to stick. I have a reputation for always running out of glue sticks as a result! This printable, interactive geometry packet is a fun way to have the kids thinking about classifying 2 dimensional shapes and then categorizing them accordingly. It meets the 5th grade math standards wonderfully and is thoroughly engaging for the kids.
I have used this with my 5th graders as a whole class activity and as small group work.
You will find I have included both colorful polygons to cut out and glue, together with printer friendly sheets which the children can color themselves. I like to make several copies of each sheet so that the children have enough shapes to create their pictures. With my small group, I had them use the colored shapes as a time saver. The whole class colored their own.
There are a variety of worksheet activities for you to use as you see fit for your class. This allows for differentiation and rigor.
I hope your kids enjoy this as much as my kiddos did.
