What educators are saying
Description
Math Journal Pages contain over 100 journal pages. These journal pages are starting points for exploring math through Cuisenaire rods. These pages are based on the work of Gattegno.
General Instructions
The journaling pages are starting points for exploring math ideas using Cuisenaire rods. There are pages that coordinate well and some pages that build upon other pages. However, there is not a specific order for the journaling pages.
Types of Journaling Pages
Table Journals help to organize information for better observations.
Math Structure Journals focus on observing structures, the manipulation of them and the testing of them.
Expression Exploration Journals focus on observing expressions, the manipulation of them and the testing of them.
Number Exploration Journals focus on observing number composition, decomposition, and manipulation of numbers using a variety of operations.
Notice and Wonder Journals offer opportunity for the student to express their insights into the structures, expressions and mathematical concepts.
Compare and Contrast Journals focus students on looking for patterns by noticing similarities and differences between structures and expressions.
How to organize
Because the journaling pages are starting points, it would be convenient to organize the material in such a way that you can insert graphing pages between the journaling pages as needed. This will allow the student to return and add to their discoveries or to continue testing their ideas.
