I am so excited about this product because I have been using it in my classroom with great success. I am working on the other common core standards now so you can have journal prompts for all the common core standards.
This product is designed as a supplement to your common core instruction. All prompts are designed to get students answering questions aligned to the Common Core Math Practice Standards. It really gets your learners thinking about their answers and requires them to move up to the rigor of the common core standards to explain their thinking.
In this packet there are a variety of prompts aligned to the common core standards (four prompts for each of the seven Number and Operations in Base Ten standards).
In my classroom we do about three to four journal prompts a week depending on my math instruction. After the mini-lesson they work on extra practice or math games then move onto their math journals. This would be great for a math center activity as well. I have my students work in groups of two or three so they get a chance to hear each other’s thinking. The questions on the prompts also allow you assess and question your learners as well.
In my classroom I found it worked best to create a math journal folder for each student so that they can work their way through the common core journal prompts at their own pace, and so I can assess the mastery of the common core standards as a whole.
