Students LOVE having their journal/notebook to reflect on all the amazing work they've done. Help students to take charge of their learning by using notebooks!!
I stumbled across this concept in 2005 when I started teaching in England. It took awhile (because I didn’t know what I was doing at first), but once I got going, I LOVED IT AND WON’T TEACH WITHOUT IT NOW! I only wish someone would have explained it to me and given me more resources.
So..... what is it?
All independent work is recorded directly into notebooks, or if done on a worksheet, work is glued into the notebooks.

So what is in these resources?
Exactly what you need to PRINT & GO.
The objective and brief directions are at the top of each page and then printables that will save you so much time and paper. These ARE NOT worksheets. These resources are graphic organizer titles, activities that children will cut/mix up/use dice with/glue/etc and ideas for you! These are designed for notebooks that are 8 1/2 x 11 journals....if yours are smaller you will need to reduce when copying to fit your books.
What I hope you will enjoy most is the DIFFERENTIATION I’ve included for you. I know that we have students that are behind, on-level or advanced. My resources are layered as much as possible (that’s why there’s so many pages!!) so that you have choices for your students. There is no reason they should all be doing the same thing when they are at different levels. Gotta love differentiated activities!
I’ve included pictures of many of the actual journal pages completed at the end of each pack (I’ve noticed that some of my early packs don’t have this, so I’m trying to go back and add this). I know I’m a visual person, and I love seeing picture examples rather than reading about it.
I also update my resources as time goes by, so you will probably get TPT emails now and then that say to redownload something because I’ve updated it.

Common Core Connection:
2.OA.A.1 Use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one- and two-step word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
2.OA.B.2 Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
