Math journals My Story Problems grade 1-2 is created with the purpose to give students some structure and text to guide them through writing their own word problems. These journal pages can be completed as a whole group, small group, math intervention or support, or independently as morning work, or even homework.
Each page has a sentence that gives them an answer.
Then there is 2 spaces for their statement, A line for them to create a question, a line to create a number sentence, and finally a math illustration. So pages have 3 spaces for a statement ( for 3 addends) which those can be optional.
It allows students to come up with different methods to coming up with that number and in turn can lead to some great math discussions. In addition, I have added some pages with the letter b next to the number. The purpose of these pages are to allow the student to practice determining the unknown whole number to an addition or subtraction problem. I also created some pages that had 3 statement lines so they could practice with 3 addends, however that 3 one can always be optional.
These pages are numbered but do not have to go in any specific order.
