One of the most difficult math tasks that students have is understanding and solving word problems, especially with limited reading ability. This poster focuses on key words used in each of the four operations to help them have a better idea of when they are supposed to add, subtract, multiply, or divide. Something that will really help as an addition to each student having one of these is a "train" whistle for each child. You will "train" them to get used to seeing or hearing key words that will instantly trigger the correct operation in their minds. They will enjoy the competition of seeing who can be the first to blow the "train" whistle at the sight or sound of a key word! They will soon realize that the numbers and the key words that come after them are equally important in determining what operation is appropriate.
